Chelsea have officially confirmed that club captain Reece James has undergone successful minor knee surgery following an injury sustained during a recent training session at Cobham.
The Premier League outfit released an official statement on Friday, 16 October, verifying that the procedure had taken place. While the club refrained from specifying an exact calendar date for his competitive return, the right-back is widely anticipated to be out of action for approximately three months while he completes his structured rehabilitation program.
This latest physical setback comes as a significant blow to both player and club during a demanding stretch of the domestic campaign. James hurt his knee during preparation drills prior to the weekend fixtures. Subsequent medical assessments carried out by the team's specialist staff determined that corrective minor surgery was the safest and most effective path forward to resolve the issue permanently.
The 26-year-old defender has already begun his post-operative recovery protocol under the direct supervision of Chelsea’s medical department. With an estimated three-month timeline attached to his recovery, the Blues will have to navigate a dense series of fixtures across all competitions without their primary leader on the pitch.
Chelsea’s technical staff will now need to reorganize their defensive setup in James's absence. The club extended its full backing to the skipper, wishing him a smooth and complete recovery process as he starts his journey back toward full match fitness.
