Lisandro Martínez has issued a public apology after openly questioning Manchester United’s football leadership and summer transfer dealings. The center-back voiced his dissatisfaction in the aftermath of recent performances, casting light on brewing tensions between the playing squad and the club’s recruitment hierarchy.
Reports indicate that the primary trigger behind Martínez's frustration stemmed from tactical selection decisions made during the club’s midweek encounter against Atlético Madrid. Specifically, the decision to deploy young natural center-back Ayden Heaven out of position at left-back sparked exasperation. Martínez viewed the forced positional shift as a direct consequence of inadequate squad planning during the summer trading window, where senior depth in defensive areas was left unaddressed.
Following discussions with management and senior executives, Martínez acknowledged that his public commentary went beyond acceptable boundaries. The Argentine expressed regret over the timing and forum of his remarks, offering a complete apology to the board, his head coach, and the broader squad to restore focus back onto on-pitch matters.
Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick addressed the incident directly during his pre-match media commitments, confirming that the internal grievance had been handled decisively behind closed doors. Carrick clarified that the matter is now considered closed by the technical staff and confirmed that Martínez remains fully in contention for selection in Sunday’s Premier League fixture against Leeds United.
With internal disciplinary discussions concluded, United turn their undivided attention toward a critical domestic fixture. The focus now shifts back to the pitch as the squad prepares for a demanding trip to Elland Road.
