Harry Kane has been awarded the 2026 Men's Ballon d'Or at a ceremony in London, becoming the first Englishman to claim the prestigious prize since Michael Owen in 2001. The England captain and Bayern Munich striker secured the historic honour at the 70th edition of the awards held at the London Palladium on 26 October 2026.
The recognition crowns a phenomenal period of form for the striker, who dominated matches at both club and international level over the course of the campaign. Kane netted 61 goals in 51 appearances across all competitions for Bayern Munich, driving the German giants to a domestic league and cup double.
His exceptional exploits extended onto the international stage during a busy year. Kane scored six goals at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, leading the England national team to a strong showing as they reached the semi-finals of the tournament.
The race for the golden prize was fiercely contested, with Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappé among the leading candidates pushed aside by the Englishman's remarkable goalscoring output. In addition to claiming the main prize of the evening, Kane was also officially presented with the Men's Striker of the Year award to cap off a remarkable night.
This landmark achievement writes a brilliant new chapter in English football history, placing Kane alongside the nation's previous winners of the game's greatest individual honour. As the celebrations settle, attention will quickly turn to how the newly crowned Ballon d'Or winner continues to spearhead the attack for both club and country in the months ahead.
