Spanish football is mourning the death of CD Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel Alameda, who died on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, at the age of 30 following a serious collision during a match against FC Andorra.
The fixture took place on Monday, 2 November 2026, at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium in Spain's Segunda División. During stoppage time in a match that stood at 2-2, De Miguel chased a long ball as Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono came out of his penalty area to clear it.
The two players collided, with Owono's knee striking De Miguel in the chest. De Miguel collapsed on the pitch, prompting players from both teams to immediately call for medical assistance.
Medical personnel treated him on the pitch before taking him to hospital. The match was abandoned in the 108th minute, and Owono received a straight red card following the incident.
De Miguel suffered a cardiac arrest following the collision. Medical personnel reportedly resuscitated him during the emergency response, and he was admitted to the intensive care unit at Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital.
Tenerife initially described his condition as serious but stable. On Tuesday morning, however, the club announced that his neurological condition had deteriorated, and he died at 8:00 a.m. local time.
Born in Madrid, Spain, De Miguel built his career through the Spanish lower divisions before reaching professional football. He began his development at Lugo Fuenlabrada and Leganés, and in 2017 joined Internacional de Madrid to help the club achieve promotion.
Spells at Navalcarnero and Unionistas de Salamanca followed, where he scored 12 goals in 29 appearances during the 2019-20 campaign and 12 goals in 36 matches during 2021-22 respectively. He joined Castellón in January 2023, helping them achieve promotion to Spain's second division.
He moved to Tenerife in July 2025 and helped the club secure promotion to the Segunda División, scoring 11 goals during that campaign. A pubic injury had disrupted his first season at Tenerife, and he had made six appearances totalling 98 minutes during the current campaign.
Tributes have poured in from across Spanish and international football following the tragedy. Real Madrid expressed condolences to his family, teammates and Tenerife, while Barcelona published a message mourning his passing.
FC Andorra expressed its condolences to his loved ones and the Tenerife community. LaLiga and Spanish football authorities also paid tribute to the player, while UEFA called for moments of silence at European matches.
